Ariens lawn mowers have been around since the early 1930's and are known for their rugged reliability. Their latest release is the Ariens AMP Rider electric lawn mower. It's as powerful as a conventional riding lawnmower, but makes far less noise and requires hardly any maintenance.
Electric walk behind lawn mowers are already outselling gas powered alternatives. While environmental considerations are a major factor, consumers love the fact that they are clean, quiet, reliable and easy to start. As a further bonus they are cheap to operate at less than 60 cents per charge.
Ariens Electric Riding Lawn Mower
The Ariens AMP Rider is a mid-range riding lawnmower with a 34" twin blade cutting deck, hydrostatic transmission and rear wheel drive. It has a top speed of 5 MPH forward and 2.5 MPH in reverse. It's best suited for use on level or gently sloping lawns.
The unit is powered by a 48 volt - 75 amp motor with five cell packs each containing four 12 volt batteries. It has an average running time of 75 minutes before requiring a re-charge. What this means is that the Ariens mower has enough battery storage capacity to tackle areas of an acre and more on a single charge.
Ariens lawn mowers are American made and characteristically rugged. The AMP Rider is no exception, it's constructed from stamped 12 gauge steel. It speaks volumes in a world where most competing products are made from plastic and pressed tin.
Recharge Mower G1-RM10
The Recharge riding lawn mower is a less powerful unit than the Ariens AMP Rider and has dual 27" cutting blades versus 34" on the Ariens. On the other hand it has a significantly longer running time between charges: 3 hours versus 75 minutes. At a maximum speed of 4.5 MPH we can see how it could handle an area of up to 2 acres, but it may take 2-3 hours.

Which is the best riding lawn mower? Overall we have a preference for the Ariens electric lawn mower. We are impressed by it's power and solid construction. With few exceptions it consistently scores well in lawn mower reviews and comparisons.
The battery powered lawn mower, whether walk behind or riding lawn mower is well on it's way to becoming a standard feature of the suburban back yard. We don't know anyone who likes the noise or fumes associated with traditional gas burning mowers. There can be no doubt that their days are numbered. In our view it can't happen soon enough.
