We can't help but see some similarities between the Neuton lawn mower and the Apple computer. They can both lay claim to being highly innovative. The respective companies obviously have exceptional marketing skills, but they also timed the release of their respective products to perfection. In the case of Apple there was pent up demand for a user-friendly home computer. On the other hand Neuton has ridden on a wave of increasing environmental awareness. Electric lawn mowers have better green credentials than almost any other product and hence the success of the Neuton mower.
Since Neuton lawn mowers first came on the market many other brands have released an electric mower. Even companies such as Toro that we generally associate with gas burning rotaries and commercial lawn mowers has joined the movement.
Neuton Cordless Electric Lawn Mowers
The Neuton lawn mower has evolved significantly since it first appeared. The latest models are the CE5 and CE6. The former is most suitable for small lawns while the latter can comfortably tackle up to one third of an acre.
The CE5 is easy to use, highly maneuverable and eliminates the mess associated with gas powered mowers. It's an excellent solution for anyone with a small lawn who doesn't feel up to using a push reel mower.
The CE5 is a light weight mower with a cutting path of just 14 inches. It's actually closer to 12 inches when overlapping swathes are taken into account. If you have a quarter acre of lawn that's a lot of walking. That's OK if you simply want exercise, but a better option maybe a push lawn mower.
Neuton CE6 Cordless Lawn Mower
The CE6 is the flag ship of the Neuton range. It's packaged with a safety key, mulching kit and grass bagger. Complete with battery it weighs in at 69lbs.
On a single charge the CE6 will deliver up to sixty minutes or one third of an acre of mowing. It's armed with a 19 inch cutting blade that significantly reduces the amount of walking required.
Lawn Mower Comparison
Black and Decker lawn mowers are formidable competition. On a feature for feature basis the Black and Decker CM1936 is arguably a better mower than the CE6 and depending on the time of year is usually cheaper. In our view the B&D CM1936 is the best electric lawn mower currently available.
The latest electric mowers (including the Neuton CE6) have a 36-volt motor. They are more powerful and charge more quickly than 24-volt motors as employed by the CE5. As a general rule we don't recommend 24-volt battery powered lawn mowers. They are challenged by taller as well as thicker grass and will more quickly lose charge. Overall 36-volt lawn mowers give fewer problems.
Summary
Cordless lawn mowers are finally outselling their gas guzzling relatives. They are quiet, clean and easy to start. Furthermore they are cheap to operate at between two and five cents a charge and no servicing costs. It's not difficult to understand why thousands of loyal consumers have purchased a Neuton lawn mower.
