Best Rechargeable Lawn Mower - Neuton vs Black and Decker Lawn Mowers -
The rechargeable lawn mower is finally outselling it's gas powered relatives and within a few years will be the option most commonly found in garden sheds across the nation. It would have happened sooner, but consumers were wary on two counts.
Whether electric lawnmowers were powerful enough, and
Whether they could hold enough charge to cut a suburban lawn.
As a consequence millions of consumers decided to opt for a corded electric lawnmower. They are trouble free and relatively cheap. On the down side users are tethered by a cord that can be no longer than one hundred feet. It means that corded mowers are generally only suitable for use on the smallest grassed areas.
The limitations of early cordless lawn mowers have now been comprehensively overcome with more powerful motors, smart battery technology and lighter machines.
The two companies that lead the field in rechargeable lawnmower technology are Neuton and Black and Decker. They were two of the first manufacturers to offer a viable battery powered lawn mower. As a consequence they have established a substantial lead over their competitors.
Black and Decker Lawn Mowers - the top sellers are all based on the same 36 volt motor. The CM1836 is the best value for money. It's battery is enclosed and hence not exchangeable, so it must be charged in-situ. For most of us that's not a serious limitation because we don't need to mow more than one third of an acre on a single charge. For users who need to mow larger areas or don't have a power outlet in their garden shed there is the CM1936. It's almost identical except batteries can be easily swapped and it has a slightly bigger deck 19" vs 18".
The CE6 is the latest mower from Neuton. On a feature for feature basis it's a close contest between it and B&D's CM1936. Other than cost there are no significant differences between them. The CM1936 is cheaper and the CM1836 is substantially cheaper. They have equivalent motors, height adjustments and cutting decks. Both organizations also provide excellent supporting services.
Traditional manufacturers of gas powered lawn mowers were slow in responding to consumer demands for eco friendly products. They failed to foresee the impact of increasing environmental consciousness on demand for rechargeable lawn mowers and hence with the exception of Toro they are not serious contenders.
